Our Garden

At Main Street Garden & Café, our cuisine is deeply rooted in a sense of community. We strive to showcase and support the regional flavor of the Central Coast, and to enhance the lives of those who live here. From sourcing our ingredients or the seeds for our garden, to decorating our dining room and selecting our wines- our responsibility goes well beyond the culinary, and embraces environmental, aesthetic, and social aspects of community as well.

Our Mediterranean Italian-inspired cuisine is infused with the unique personality of our region. We carefully select locally produced, organic meats, wines, and seasonal produce from farmers, wineries, and distributors on the Central Coast. We also grow specialty vegetables, fruit, herbs, and edible flowers year-round in our on-site garden, ensuring the freshest, seasonally available produce. We guarantee that our weekly menus are a direct celebration of a specific, unique moment in time on the Central Coast.

At Main Street we have made environmental stewardship a guiding principle. We are always attempting to add new “green” practices to our daily routine. We have created several closed-loop systems to recycle our waste products- we currently recycle kitchen scraps, wash water, and paper towels through our garden. We also use the residual heat from our pizza oven to cook bread. Our garden is cultivated according to organic standards, and we source organically produced items as much as possible.

It is fitting that our restaurant is located in a converted house. We endeavor to create a home-made cuisine that is both exciting and comforting. We bake bread in the wood-fired oven, toss our own pizza dough, roll our own hand-made pastas, grind our own sausage, make our own gelato, preserve and pickle fruits and vegetables, and grow many of the herbs and vegetables we use.

Just as any home reflects the family who lives there, our dining room and patio demonstrate our continued commitment to the culture of the Central Coast. We display different local artists each month, showcase local musicians, decorate our tables with local and garden-grown flowers, and surround our patio with ornamental plants that thrive in our climate. We regularly hold fundraisers for local schools and non-profit organizations, and sponsor community-based events to show our support for those who support us.

We welcome you to our house. It is our hope that you will feel at home while dining with us, and encourage you to explore the patio and garden. Come relax after a busy week, enjoy dining with your family and friends, and stay as long as you like.
